In this guide, you will find a simple and complete packing list for a Sahyadri day trek. Whether you are going for a monsoon fort trek in Maharashtra or a short winter hike, this blog will help you pack smart, avoid overpacking, and carry only what you truly need for a great trekking experience.
Here’s a list of essentials to carry for a day hike in the Sahyadri Hills.

- Lightweight backpack and avoid sling bags. For most Sahyadri day treks, a 20–30 liter daypack is ideal.
- ID – Aadhar card/ voter ID
- 1.5 litres of water – probably the heaviest thing in my bag ( 2 litres is recommended).
- Mobile phone and power bank.
- Torch.
- Cap/hat
- Sunglasses
- Cotton Scarf
- Lightweight jacket
- Personal medicines ( if any )
- Hand wash
- Lip Balm
- Hand cream
- Sunscreen
- Hair pins and an extra scrunchy
- Extra pair of socks
- Hand Sanitizer
- Optional – a lightweight extra pair of clothes to be worn after finishing the trek.
- Food & Snacks – Granola bars, dry fruits, nuts, and chocolates.
- First aid kit – Include essentials like band-aids, antiseptic cream, pain relievers, and any personal medication.
