Harihar Fort Trek – The Not So Dangerous Trek in India

I went on the Harihar trek during the winter with a small trekking group. We started our journey from Pune late at night and reached the base village in the early hours of the morning. After a long ride, we grabbed a quick nap to shake off the travel fatigue. As the first light of day appeared, we began our climb towards the fort.

Harihar Fort is a unique trek located at an altitude of about 3,676 feet in the Sahyadri mountain range of Maharashtra. What makes it truly special is the almost vertical, rock-carved steps that lead to the top making the climb both exciting and a bit scary. This is why it’s considered one of the most dangerous treks in Maharashtra and holds a special place in the hearts of trekking enthusiasts.

Living in a city full of lights and noise can be overwhelming. Escaping to a place where you can see countless stars in the night sky feels magical.

The best places are often those that can’t be reached by roads.

People from all walks of life—school kids, college students, professionals, and mothers.

The mountain peaks draped in a soft blanket of fog.

Locals usually set up their shops here, but it seems we arrived a bit too early.

Finding the perfect spot to rest and settling in comfortably.

Absolutely breathtaking views from Harihar Fort.

Exhausted but content ❤ 🙂

The stunning view from the fort.

After enjoying the views from the top, we started the descend. One need to be careful with each steep step. We used the rocks and handrails for support to make sure we didn’t slip. The first part of the descent is a bit challenging, but it gets easier as you go lower.

During the monsoon season, the stairs can become slippery, making the hike even more challenging. The wet rocks increase the risk of slipping, so extra caution is needed while descending. It’s important to take your time, step carefully.

Joy is in living outdoors, being free, and enjoying the simple things at base village.

The kids are having the time of their lives! 😊
