Peaceful Mornings at the Pune Okayama Friendship Garden

On a calm, foggy winter Saturday morning, my partner and I woke up much earlier than usual, around 5:30 am. For days, I had been thinking about showing Ranjan parts of Pune that I had already explored. We decided to visit the Pune-Okayama Friendship Garden, located on Sinhagad Road in Pune. It is also known as the Pu La Deshpande Japanese Garden inspired by the famous Korakuen Garden in Okayama, Japan.

After a quick shower, I packed a few snacks into my bag. While Ranjan was in the shower, I made myself a simple meal—ghee-toasted bread and a glass of warm boiled milk—to curb my hunger. The drive to the garden took around 30 minutes, thanks to the lighter traffic in the early hours compared to the usual daytime rush.

There is plenty of parking, and most of it was empty because we arrived early in the morning. The sun hadn’t come up yet, and a cool breeze was blowing. The garden has winding paths, small wooden bridges, lots of plants, and a pond – yes! 🙂 Perfect place to relax and connect with nature in city.

Some people were practicing yoga, senior citizens were having deep conversations, others were taking quiet walks like us, or simply sitting peacefully on the benches.

Koi fish gathered near the bridge.

The feathered family and their home.

Pune has not been this chilly in the last 8 years.

If you’re in Pune and looking for a peaceful retreat, I recommend starting your day at the Pune-Okayama Friendship Garden.

Have you been to this garden? What was your favourite part? Let me know in the comments!
