An Oasis in Cold Desert, Deyzor

On the second day of our adventure in Spiti Valley, we rented a bike and headed to Deyzor, hoping to store our bags there. I knocked on the door and immediately noticed a colorful vegan bowl, brimming with vibrant veggies and fruits, just like a rainbow. My gaze then shifted to the man enjoying it near the reception. As soon as he noticed us, he got up, leaving his delicious meal behind.

He welcomed us warmly and introduced himself as Karanbir. He kindly offered us to join him for breakfast, but we insisted that he finish first and then help us with our bags. He smiled and reassured us, saying, “No worries, I’ll take care of the bags first and continue afterward. Don’t worry about me.” Karanbir and Kim are owners of Deyzor.

With our bags securely stored, we bid farewell to Karanbir and set off to explore the wonders of Spiti Valley.

By around 9:00 PM, we finally returned to the hotel after a day full of adventures. Exhausted from driving through the winding roads of Spiti, we dragged ourselves to our room. Just as we began to unwind, there was a knock at the door. It was Karanbir, accompanied by a staff member carrying an unusual tray. He smiled and said, “A welcome drink from our side.” We were pleasantly surprised by this thoughtful gesture.

The drink was a local concoction—a delightful blend of apples, cinnamon, and a touch of something magical. As I sipped it, I began to take in the room’s details. The space was adorned with beautiful handicrafts, each telling its own story. Ranjan opened the window for some fresh air and was immediately struck by the quirky wall design outside.

There’s no boring corner at Deyzor

I picked up a Himalayan-themed book from the side table, and as I leafed through its pages, I felt my eyelids growing heavier until I finally surrendered to sleep.

To find hot water, a plethora of delicious food choices, countless books to read, a charming cafe, a cozy place to stay, and warm, welcoming people—if this isn’t an oasis in the cold desert, I don’t know what is.

This cafe will transport you to different places, with its beautiful displays of travel souvenirs collected from around the world.

Paradise for book readers
Carrot cake in Spiti Valley

Staying at this place felt incredibly special and homely. It’s one of the best cafés I’ve ever visited, and its location at an elevation of 3,650 m (11,980 ft) above sea level makes it even more extraordinary. If you’ve already visited this place, I’d love to hear your thoughts—I’m eager to read your opinions!
