Hunt for Fiddleheads in the Wilderness

This evening, I wandered into a nearby forest of Manali with locals to pluck fiddleheads, ferns, and other wild veggies. Three women, little Ishan, and two dogs. This is a photoblog, so I’ll let the photos speak a thousand words.

Lingudi is also called fiddlehead fern, isn’t just tasty—it’s super nutritious too! Packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, it’s a real powerhouse. It is found growing naturally in forests, it’s best harvested when the head is soft but not too tender.

People often sauté fiddleheads just like saag, and some even turn them into delicious pickles. If you know more recipes, please comment below—I’d be thrilled to give them a try!

2-year-old Ishan, this little gentleman, generously gave me lots of flowers and took good care of me.
