Goodbye to store-bought biscuits and welcome to my homemade ones!
Have you ever seen your family enjoying not-so-healthy snacks from the store? I certainly did! My husband loves biscuits, but I wanted to make sure he had something healthy and homemade. This is my first try at making biscuits, and while they’re not perfectly round, they taste really delicious.
Here’s my recipe
Ingredients:
- 125g whole wheat flour
- 75g Gram flour
- 75g Desi Ghee
- 45g Desi Khand/ sugar
- Milk as required
- a pinch of salt
Instructions:
- Heat a thick-bottomed kadai (cast iron or non-stick) on low heat. You can also use a heavy-bottomed pan.
- In a mixing bowl, mix ghee and desi khand/sugar thoroughly to achieve a fluffy consistency.
- Add whole wheat flour, gram flour, and salt to the bowl.
- Gradually add the milk, a little at a time, and mix until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix; you want a soft, pliable dough.
- Turn the dough out onto a clean, lightly floured surface. Gently knead it a couple of times to bring it together.
- Roll the dough into a 1/2-inch thick circle.
- Use a biscuit cutter or a small, inverted cup to cut out biscuit rounds from the dough.
- Sprinkle a pinch of salt on top of each biscuit for added flavor.
- Carefully place the biscuits into the preheated kadai or pan. Cover it with a lid and cook on low heat for about 15-20 minutes. Check occasionally to ensure they’re not browning too quickly.
- When the biscuits have puffed up and turned golden brown on the bottom, carefully flip them over using a spatula.
- Cover and continue to cook for another 10-15 minutes until the biscuits are cooked through and have a nice golden color on both sides.
- Once they are done, remove the biscuits from the kadai and let them cool slightly on a wire rack.
Your homemade whole wheat kadai biscuits with a touch of salt are ready to be enjoyed! They’re perfect with tea or as a snack. I would love to try a new recipe, please share it with me.
